Born in Beirut into a family of musicians, Abdel Rahman El Bacha began studying the piano in 1967 with Zvart Sarkissian, a pupil of Marguerite Long and Jacques Février. At the age of 10, he gave his first concert with orchestra. In 1973, Claudio Arrau predicted a great career for him, and in 1974, France, the Soviet Union and England offered him a scholarship. He chose France out of cultural affinity and entered the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris, in the class of Pierre Sancan, where he obtained four First Prizes: piano, chamber music, harmony and counterpoint.
At the age of 19, he unanimously won the Concours Reine Elisabeth de Belgique and has since performed in the most prestigious halls in Europe and around the world. From the Mozarteum in Salzburg to the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to the Herkulessaal in Munich ... and he has appeared as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon, the NHK Tokyo, the Orchestre de la Suisse romande ...
For the record labels Forlane, Fuga Libera, Mirare, Octavia Records and MClassics, El Bacha has made recordings that have been awarded 4 grands prix du disque. Among these achievements are Bach’s Goldberg Variations and both books of The Well-Tempered Clavier, the complete Beethoven sonatas, Schubert’s Impromptus, the complete works of Chopin for solo piano and orchestra, Granados’s Goyescas suite, Rachmaninov’s 24 Preludes, the complete Prokofiev concertos, as well as the complete works of Ravel, for solo piano and orchestra. A complete recording of Mozart’s sonatas is currently in progress with MClassics. Abdel Rahman El Bacha has also recorded his own piano compositions, the scores of which are published by Delatour France.
Since 1981, Abdel Rahman El Bacha has held dual French-Lebanese nationality. The Minister of Culture of the French Republic awarded him the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (1998), and the President of the Lebanese Republic presented him with the Medal of the Order of Merit (2002). The Université internationale de Louvain awarded him a doctorat honoris causa (2019), and the Lebanese American University in Lebanon granted him the same honorary distinction (2022).

A 10 ans, il donne son premier concert avec orchestre. En 1973, Claudio Arrau lui prédit une grande carrière et en 1974, la France, l'Union Soviétique et l'Angleterre lui offrent une bourse d'études. Il choisit la France par affinité culturelle et entre au Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris, classe de Pierre Sancan, où il obtient quatre Premiers prix : en piano, musique de chambre, harmonie et contrepoint.
A 19 ans, il a remporté à l'unanimité le Concours Reine Elisabeth de Belgique et se produit depuis lors dans les plus prestigieuses salles d'Europe et du monde. Parmi ces réalisations on peut citer les Variations Goldberg et les 2 livres du clavier bien tempéré de Bach, l’intégrale des sonates de Beethoven, les Impromptus de Schubert, l’intégrale de l’œuvre de Chopin en solo et avec orchestre, la suite Goyescas de Granados, les 24 Préludes de Rachmaninov, l’intégrale des concertos de Prokofiev ainsi que l’intégrale des œuvres de Ravel, en solo et avec orchestre. Une intégrale des sonates de Mozart est en cours de réalisation chez MClassics. Abdel Rahman El Bacha a également enregistré ses propres compositions pour piano dont les partitions sont éditées chez Delatour France.
Depuis 1981, Abdel Rahman El Bacha a obtenu la double nationalité franco-libanaise. Le ministre de la Culture de la République française lui a décerné le titre de Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (1998), le président de la République libanaise lui a remis la Médaille de l'Ordre du mérite (2002). L’université internationale de Louvain lui a décerné un doctorat honoris causa (2019) et l’université Libano-américaine au Liban lui octroie la même distinction honorifique (2022).

Op 10-jarige leeftijd gaf hij zijn eerste concert met orkest. In 1973 voorspelde Claudio Arrau hem een grote carrière, en in 1974 boden Frankrijk, de Sovjet-Unie en Engeland hem een studiebeurs aan. Uit culturele affiniteit koos hij voor Frankrijk en trad hij toe tot het Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris, in de klas van Pierre Sancan, waar hij vier Eerste Prijzen behaalde: piano, kamermuziek, harmonie en contrapunt.
Op 19-jarige leeftijd won hij unaniem de Concours Reine Elisabeth de Belgique en sindsdien trad hij op in de meest prestigieuze zalen van Europa en de rest van de wereld.
