CÉLINE FRISCH

Born in Marseille, Céline Frisch discovered the harpsichord at the age of six. In 1992, she received her first prizes for harpsichord and chamber music at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory. She continued her studies at the Schola Cantorum in Basel in the classes of Andreas Staier and Jesper Christensen. She graduated as a soloist and began to perform in concert. Laureate "Juventus" in 1996, she is in 2002 the first harpsichordist selected for the "Victoires de la Musique Classique".

Today, Céline Frisch devotes herself mainly to her activity as a soloist and member of the Café Zimmermannensemble, founded in 1999 with Pablo Valetti. She is thus invited by the most prestigious venues in France - the Théâtre de la Ville, Radio France, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the festivals of Ile-de-France, La Roque d'Anthéron, October in Normandy, etc. ; and also performs abroad: Washington, Toronto, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Seoul, Brussels, Amsterdam, Lisbon, etc.

Her interpretations of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach have earned her the warmest comments from the international music press. Besides Bach, her affinities led her to play French music from the time of Louis XIV and Louis XV, works by English virginalists and German music from the 17th century. She also enjoys exploring 20th century music and contemporary creation (Manuel de Falla, Henri Dutilleux, Gyorgy Ligeti, François Sarhan, Brice Pauset, etc).

Dedicated among others to the music of Bach, Anglebert and Rameau, her recordings have all been acclaimed by excellent critics and rewarded with the highest distinctions in the specialized press. Her recordings of the Goldberg Variations and the Well tempered Clavier by J.S.Bach are considered as references.

In 2020, she has been appointed Professor for harpsichord at the Early music Institute of the University of Vienna in Austria.

In 2009 she was awarded with the title Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French minister of Culture.
