After concerts by the "four world-class string players from Salzburg" (Hamburger Abendblatt), there is "absolute silence for almost minutes, conscious of having experienced something extraordinary". This is how the press describes it. All the listeners have in common is "only the wish: may it never end".
In the 2022/23 season, the Hagen Quartet will play string quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Hagen Quartet has already devoted itself intensively to both composers in the past two seasons and is now combining the repertoire in selected concert programmes. In the Konzerthaus Vienna and in the Wigmore Hall London, the Hagen Quartet will perform the Mozart cycles that could not take place in the past two years. In addition to Mozart and Shostakovich, the string quintet by Schubert with Julia Hagen and Gautier Capuçon is also on some of the programmes. The 2022/23 tours will take the Hagen Quartet to Siena, Florence, Hamburg, Dortmund, Cologne, Brussels, Frankfurt, Dresden, Berlin and Amsterdam. The four musicians will also perform again in Salzburg and at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg and Hohenems.
The unparalleled career of the Hagen Quartet, which has already spanned four decades, began in 1981. The first years were marked by competition successes and an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. During the decades of collaboration, numerous recordings were made to develop the almost endless quartet repertoire, from which the unmistakable profile of the Hagen Quartet developed. Recordings thereafter on myrios classics with Brahms' Clarinet Quintet together with Jörg Widmann and with Mozart's string quartets were highly praised internationally by the press and received prizes such as the Echo Klassik in Germany and the Diapason d'or in France. A recording with Brahms' 3rd String Quartet and Piano Quintet together with Kirill Gerstein will be released in 2019 and a recording with Mozart's and Jörg Widmann's Clarinet Quintets (first recording) in autumn 2020.
The Hagen Quartet has been an honorary member of the Konzerthaus Wien since 2012 and received the Concertgebouw Prijs in 2019 for its many years of artistic radiance and contribution.
The quartet's repertoire consists of delightful and intelligently combined programmes that span the entire history of the string quartet, from works of the early eras to Haydn and Kurtág. The Hagen Quartet maintains and deepens contact with composers of its generation, whether by performing existing works or premiering new ones. Collaboration with artists such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt (†) and György Kurtág is just as important to the Hagen Quartet as joint concert performances with Maurizio Pollini, Mitsuko Uchida, Krystian Zimerman, Heinrich Schiff (†), Jörg Widmann, Kirill Gerstein, Sol Gabetta or Gautier Capucon.
For a large number of young string quartets, the Hagen Quartet is a role model in terms of sound quality, stylistic diversity, interplay and serious engagement with the works and composers of their genre. As teachers and mentors at the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Hochschule Basel and at international master classes, they pass on this wealth of experience to their younger colleagues.

Au cours de la saison 2022/23, le quatuor Hagen jouera des quatuors à cordes de Dmitri Chostakovitch et de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Le quatuor Hagen s'est déjà consacré de manière intensive à ces deux compositeurs au cours des deux dernières saisons et combine désormais leur répertoire dans des programmes de concert sélectionnés. Au Konzerthaus de Vienne et au Wigmore Hall de Londres, le quatuor Hagen jouera les cycles Mozart qui n'ont pas pu avoir lieu au cours des deux dernières années. Outre Mozart et Chostakovitch, le quintette à cordes de Schubert avec Julia Hagen et Gautier Capuçon figure également dans certains programmes.
